What does the Security Industry Authority do?

The main responsibility of the Security Industry Authority is to provide a SIA licence to individuals who are working in different sectors of the security industry, allowing them to undertake certain tasks within regulations. This is an important role in the security industry due to the sensitive nature of work, and the SIA works according to the Private Security Industry Act 2001.

Prior to the creation of the SIA Licence in 2001, there was not compulsory security compliance measure in place for companies and individuals. The presence of a licencing scheme not only helps the company to hire the right people and be trusted by their clients, but it gives the customer a sense of security when a job is to be carried out.

In the private security industry, it is important to have strict regulations and the Security Industry Authority provides this for companies across the UK. Ensuring that those working within the field are kept in check brings a level of security and safety to the industry and it plays an important role in preventing any accidents or dangerous mistakes from occurring.

Security Industry Authority offer two licenses

The first is the licensing of individuals in the private security industry. With this licensing, private security companies are able to hire only those who are qualified and fully trained.

The second is the Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) which assesses companies with independent criteria. With ACS, supplier companies abide by a core set of standards. Once accredited, companies achieve the Approved Contractor status. This independent accreditation is made available for purchasers to ensure the company’s commitment to quality.

JVR Consultancy offer your company all the support which is required to obtain any of the SIA accreditations mentioned above. Whether you are looking to obtain a new Security Industry Authority licence or SIA license renewal, we can support with both. Furthermore, we offer support with achieving the SIA ACS accreditation.

How JVR Consultancy helps you achieve SIA ACS accreditation

We carry out a free gap analysis on your current policies and procedures and produce a report highlighting what you require to achieve any of the Security Industry Authority accreditations. Once this has been established, JVR Consultancy will arrange a fixed price to carry out all the work required. In addition, we will be in attendance when the audit is carried out by the SIA to ensure that your company achieves the desired accreditation.

Our consultants cover the whole of the UK. For support or to arrange your free gap analysis, contact us on 01628 56 52 56.

Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS)

The Approved Contractor Scheme was created by the Security Industry Authority as a way to elevate standards within the industry. It’s a voluntary scheme, so companies don’t need to get accreditation, but it’s in their interests to do so.
