Licence from the Security and Intelligence Agency

A regulatory body for the private security business in the United Kingdom, the Security Industry Authority (SIA) is a government-funded organisation. It performs the functions of a non-departmental public body and is critical in the maintenance of compliance in the security industries.

What exactly is a SIA License, and how does it work?

There are two different types of licences offered by the SIA.   Each of these organisations plays a critical role in the regulation of persons working in the security industry.

The first kind is for those who are employed in the industry and who require the ability to perform critical functions. Failure to obtain a SIA Licence is a criminal offence, and as a result, obtaining one is a critical first step for anyone working in the security industry. The Front-line licence changes based on the job, and this means that any individual with any employment role in the industry can obtain a SIA Licence UK that is appropriate for them and their needs, regardless of their background or experience. It is appropriate for a variety of roles, including:

  • Manned guarding at the entrance
  • Providing security guards
  • Vehicle immobilisation for close protection
  • Surveillance of public places

The Approved Contractor Scheme is the second level of SIA security licence available (ACS). An organisation is evaluated to see whether or not it complies with regulatory criteria. The evaluations are done out by impartial organisations, and these are significant licences to have in your possession. This non-front-line licence is granted to persons who employ those who are engaged in activities that require a licence but are not themselves engaged in such activities.

The SIA collaborates with the United Kingdom Border Agency to guarantee that international workers are permitted to work in the industry.

How to Obtain a Security Industry Authority (SIA) License

The Security Industry Association (SIA) is an integral aspect of the security industry’s infrastructure, and membership is required for anyone wishing to operate in this sector. It is critical to ensure that those who have been entrusted with these tasks stay compliant and safe, and this has been a significant accomplishment since the program’s inception in 2001. Because licences are granted only to the most qualified, physically fit, and ethically responsible personnel, clients may be assured of their safety and security when they choose individuals or organisations to provide security in the United Kingdom.

We provide a free gap analysis of your present policies and procedures, following which we generate a report outlining what you need to do in order to obtain your SIA Licensing. Once this has been determined, JVR Consultancy will negotiate a set price for the completion of all of the work necessary. In addition, we will be there when the SIA conducts the audit to verify that your company receives the accreditation that it seeks to obtain.
